The MEDTRONIC MeroGel Nasal Dressing/Sinus 1517000 is a bioresorbable nasal and otologic dressing and stent.

Purpose: MEDTRONIC MeroGel Nasal Dressing/Sinus is designed to be used after various ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) surgeries or trauma, including functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), as well as procedures involving the middle and external ear like myringoplasty and tympanoplasty.

Key Features:

• Bioresorbable: This is a key feature. Unlike traditional nasal packings that require a separate, often painful, removal procedure, MeroGel slowly dissolves on its own over approximately two weeks.
• Material: It is a woven fleece made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps with wound healing. The material, known by the trademark HYAFF®, is an esterified form of hyaluronic acid.
• Function:
  • Space Occupying: It acts as a stent to separate mucosal surfaces, which helps prevent adhesions (scarring) and lateralization of the middle turbinate—a common cause of FESS failure.
  • Hemostasis: It helps control minimal bleeding after surgery.
  • Healing: It maintains a moist environment and acts as an adjunct to aid in the natural healing process.
• Form: It comes as a dressing/stent that is 4 cm x 4 cm in size. When hydrated, the material transforms into a muco-adhesive gel within 24-48 hours.
