The Abbott FreeStyle Libre 2 Sensor is a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system designed to help individuals with diabetes effectively manage their glucose levels with minimal disruption to daily life. This wearable sensor, applied to the back of the upper arm, continuously measures glucose levels in the interstitial fluid for up to 14 days — eliminating the need for routine fingerstick calibration.

The sensor features a small, flexible filament inserted just beneath the skin using a simple, one-touch applicator. It is water-resistant, allowing wear during swimming, showering, and exercise, and its discreet design ensures comfort and confidence throughout daily activities.

Glucose data is transmitted wirelessly via Bluetooth® to a compatible smartphone app or the FreeStyle Libre 2 reader. Users receive real-time glucose readings every minute, along with dynamic trend arrows that show the direction and rate of glucose change.

A key advancement of the Libre 2 system is its customizable high and low glucose alarms, which notify users when glucose levels cross user-defined thresholds — even if they don’t scan the sensor. This proactive alerting supports timely intervention and helps reduce the risk of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.

Intended for individuals aged 4 years and older, the FreeStyle Libre 2 is indicated for use in Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes management. It integrates seamlessly into comprehensive diabetes care by providing actionable insights into how food, activity, and medication impact glucose trends.
